This study investigates the safety and effectiveness of performing transcatheter atrial fibrillation ablation one month after left atrial appendage occlusion in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AF). Atrial fibrillation is a common heart rhythm disorder that increases the risk of stroke due to blood clots forming in the heart. The left atrial appendage is a small sac in the heart where clots often form, and occluding it can help prevent strokes. This study aims to explore whether combining this procedure with ablation, which is used to restore normal heart rhythm, is safe and effective.

Participants in the study will first undergo left atrial appendage occlusion using the WATCHMAN FLX device. After one month, they will receive transcatheter atrial fibrillation ablation. Ablation is a procedure that uses energy to make small scars in the heart tissue to stop abnormal electrical signals causing atrial fibrillation. The study will monitor the safety and effectiveness of this treatment sequence, providing insights into the best strategies for managing atrial fibrillation and reducing stroke risk.

  • Who can participate: Adults aged 18 and older with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation who meet the criteria for left atrial appendage closure and ablation may participate. Participants must have suitable anatomy for the WATCHMAN FLX device and provide informed consent.
  • Study details: Participants will undergo two procedures: left atrial appendage occlusion followed by atrial fibrillation ablation after one month. Both procedures aim to reduce stroke risk and maintain normal heart rhythm.
